Coffee Table Styling 101

Do you realize that your coffee table arrangement can actually convey your narrative? It is not just a practical piece of furniture; it serves as a platform for your artistic and personal expression and a centerpiece that can unify an entire room. When we style a coffee table we usually incorporate books, vintage discoveries, and candles to introduce dimension, visual appeal, and intrigue. Regardless of your approach, the coffee table plays a crucial role in design and below are a few tips on how to style yours.

1. Experiment with Different Heights and Scales

A well-styled coffee table has objects placed at varying heights and of different scale. This variation creates an interesting and visually appealing look that draws the eye around the table. You can never go wrong with candles at different heights and of course coffee table books. We find that odd numbers often work best for creating an aesthetic look.

Our tip: you can find so many great coffee table books from your local thrift store. To make them look more aesthetically pleasing, consider removing the cover.

2. Fresh Flowers, always!

Start with a statement vase that complements your overall design scheme. If you have a vessel that isn’t suitable for holding water, simply place a smaller glass vase inside it to hold the flowers. The vessel itself adds visual interest and can serve as a focal point, while the flowers bring a natural element that provides a fresh, inviting touch to the space. If not fresh, then naturally dried.

Our tip: drive around with garden shears for those unexpected roadside finds!

3. Antique and One-of-a-Kind Pieces

We love a good antique hunting day to find unique pieces that can be used in various spaces as styling accents. These items can be great conversation starters, adding character and depth to the overall design. Some of you may even be lucky enough to have such family heirlooms you can work with. Incorporating antiques brings a sense of history and timeless charm to a space, creating a more personalized and curated space.

Our tip: Think outside of the box and don't be afraid of being unconventional like a vintage hat or a series of interesting objects.

Happy Styling!
